Biography: Tasos Boulmetis (Greek: Τάσος Μπουλμέτης, Istanbul, 1957) is a Greek director. He has directed the films Politiki Kuzina, Notias and 1968. Politiki Kuzina is the film that has made the most tickets in Greece. He was born in 1957 in Istanbul but in 1964 with the expulsions of Greek citizens of Istanbul he settled in Greece. He initially studied physics at the University of Athens and then with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation he studied film and television production at the University of California at Los Angeles. He returned to Greece and began directing television shows and commercials. He also worked with digital special effects. In 1990 he made his directorial debut with the film Dream Factory, which was shot on Beta sp video and converted to 35 mm film. a pioneering technique for its time. DREAM FACTORY won eight state awards, and the Fantasy Award at the Houston Film Festival in 1990. In 2003, he directed his next film, Political Cuisine,[2] of which he was the screenwriter and co-producer. The film was a great commercial success in Greece, with approximately 1,500,000 tickets sold, which is the most ever for a film in the country. The film won the Best Film award at the State Film Quality Awards and at the same awards, Tasos Boulmetis won the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards. His next film was the autobiographical film Notias, which was released in 2016. In 2018, a dramatized documentary about AEK's victory over Slavia Prague in the 1968 European Basketball Cup final was released, titled 1968. He was an assistant professor at the University of California, Berkeley for a period, and has taught directing at IEK Akmi. In 2009, he was elected the first president of the Hellenic Film Academy.
