She grew up in a family involved in the confectionery business. She attended Sei-no Elementary School and then Three-Wheeler High School (currently known as Miwatari Gakuen High School). In 1932, Atsuko entered the film industry, initially appearing as a voice-over runner in films by the Funi Film Company. She later joined the Nifu Eiga Film Company and made her debut as an actress in the movie "Ginrei Fuji ni Yomigaeru" in 1933.
